Back to the Grind

After an 12 day hiatus from riding, I got back in the saddle. Injury nor weather kept me away, instead the culprit was a vacation. When you own horses and run a stable, taking a vacation is hard. You have to pay someone to take care of the horses, you have to trust this person and you have to be prepared for the unexpected.

Luckily, we have someone great - who does a better job than I do when it comes to horse care - and I think I do a pretty good job. This person stayed on the farm for the nine days we were gone. She rode WallE twice, to ensure he was somewhat sane when I got back on, and kept all the other horses healthy and happy.

When I returned, it was immediately back to getting up early to take care of the horses, taking the laundry to the laundry mat, resetting the arena and all of the other activities that come with having a barn.

Luckily, WallE was enjoyable to ride and mostly amicable (this could mean that I did not ask for enough). We rode in the newly laid out dressage arena and worked on tempo and straight lines. We played with leg yields, but did not get anything amazing.  We have a lesson tomorrow and I am very hopeful it will go well!
