Goal Setting
On January 2, WallE and I had our first ride and first lesson of 2023. It was a great lesson! We jumped at height. WallE was level headed and I managed to ride relatively well. Beginning the new year, I like to write down tangible goals that we can strive for and accomplish. Normally these are competition goals, easy to measure the success and work towards.
Finish a Horse Trial on our dressage score. This one rolled over from last year. I believe it is doable, especially at the Maiden Level. I find that the horse trials (even when you come in dead last) are more rewarding than the hunter shows. I feel they ask WallE and I to show case a multitude skills, some of which we struggle and some of which we exceed expectations. This specific goal means that we need to practice cross country more and continue to focus despite others being in the arena.
Ride in a Hunter Derby. This one is new. Now that we have competed at the 3' height, I think a Hunter Derby could be a fun and challenging course for us to ride.
Though these goals are not placement based, they still require lots of work and the ability to 'just do it.' Hopefully 2023 is the year we accomplish both goals and make new ones. We shall see!
