Monday Lesson

Riding WallE is such a privilege. He is such a fun horse to develop and he is game for almost anything. Since riding with Molly the first week of March, we have practiced our dressage and gone on a few trails (no jumping). I had a jump lesson scheduled with Laura yesterday and on Friday, knew that I needed to begin preparing.

Unfortunately my ride time quickly disappeared Friday. Between teaching lessons, getting student horses ready for the horse show and traveling to Landrum, there was no time to ride. On Saturday, after an early morning, coaching students until 2pm before loading up to come home, teaching and setting the arena, I was dog tired. However, knowing that if I want WallE to be his best in lessons - we have to practice, I got on for a short hack and quick jump over a few crossrails. WallE is just awesome. My legs were exhausted. I am not used to standing all day and had been on my feet for two days straight (walking a total of 14 miles according to my phone). I just got in my two point and let him trot and canter over a few crossrails. He was an angel, so I dismounted, took care of him and turned him out.

On Sunday, I felt a bit more refreshed. We popped the fences up to verticals and did some actual work. Again, just a lovely attitude and horse.

Yesterday during our lesson, Laura set a few jumps up and had us ride through a few courses at 2'6''. Other than chipping in to one or two, I thought we did okay. Laura was NOT happy with our energy level and set the jumps to 3'. Not a big deal other than the oxer to the vertical one stride. A 3' oxer looks BIG, especially when there is a jump right after it. However, WallE and I found a good rhythm and went right over everything. This was nice, because I do not think we have jumped anything big since the Tryon Indoor (where he refused a few fences).

WallE is such a fun horse, because for the most part he wants to do his job (with the least amount of effort) and he likes to take care of his rider.
