Post Hurricane Ride
After the storm cleared on Saturday, WallE and I hit the arena for a dressage school. Luckily our arena is graded well and drains fast. While the pastures were wet and soggy, the arena was perfect. The footing was packed, not dusty and provided the perfect blank canvas for us to track our work.
If you remember back to our lesson with Molly, she said he needed to start on a small square and work up from there. We began our ride with a loose rein walk around the arena, then began walking a square (probably 15 meters X 15 meters). We worked on straightness and within three or four minutes WallE was accepting the contact for the entire square and we moved on to trot. Once in the trot, we alternated between a circle and square, then began to include the full arena (adding in a circle or square when needed). Leg yields came next and then the canter. Though a bit fussy tracking left, the leg yields to the right were great. At the canter we worked on softening and that was very successful as well.
Finally we ran though Novice Test A for the first time. We have a CT later in October and will need to do this test. I find it complicated, but I think that may help us keep our focus. We shall see.
