The Incident
Wednesday before heading to the Five Points Horse Trial at Carolina Horse Park, I got a telephone call on my way home. Tammie was very panicked as she told me WallE had impatiently been bucking and kicking in his paddock and somehow put his back end on the fence. Not over the fence. On the fence. And he sat there, with his back arched and his front legs supporting his weight until my dad was able to cut him down.
Needless to say, when I arrived home WallE was still very panicked and his legs were starting to swell. From videos our vet suggested cold hosing and wrapping the legs. We did this for a week and a half and things seemed to improve.
A few weeks into recovery another horse tore down the fence in between them and attacked WallE. He seemed okay, but his legs started to swell again. The swelling went down and a few days later the vet came out for an overall exam.
During the vet visit it was discovered that his back had some issues from the fence incident. He was very tender and trotted soundly, but odly (back feet crossing over one another). He was prescribed some major medication and has been on stall rest ever since.
Year Three is off to a riveting start.
