TBD: Divine intervention or the Jiffy Lube
In the middle of March, I returned home from a weekend of horse showing with my lesson students. The riders and horses had great success, everyone met goals, stayed safe and ended in the ribbons. We had three horses and four riders. This meant that we needed three spots on a two horse trailer, so I needed to make two trips, hire someone to drive another trailer OR borrow a bigger trailer. I ended up hiring someone to drive their trailer and help me over the weekend. While the weekend was fun, this meant that I was paying to work. Though the work is something I LOVE doing, this is not sustainable.
We were discussing the above around the dinner table and a text came in that a family friend was selling an old diesel truck. This snowballed into dreaming of buying an old truck, selling my truck and trailer and buying a bigger horse trailer. Before I knew it, this bizarre plan was set into action.
By the second week in April, I was traveling to the Hitch and Tow with my 'new' old diesel and my two horse trailer in tow. I had several trailers I wanted to see, not sure of whether or not to finance for a trailer with living quarters, a two horse + one, or upgrade to a four horse I could pay for in cash. However, after the check engine light came on in my 'new' old truck, the choice was easy. I went with the one I could pay for in cash.
The Hitch and Tow could not have been more friendly and helpful. The woman that helped me showed me trailers that could work for my truck and offered advice on different upgrades. She worked on the paperwork while I took the truck to get fuel for the return trip home. Concerned that my 'new' old truck had the check engine light on and something might be wrong, I took it into the Jiffy Lube that was next to the gas station. They looked it over, checked the fluid levels and told me everything they could see looked fine.
When I left the Jiffy Lube, the check engine light went off. Did the Jiffy Lube fix the problem? Was it divine intervention to help me choose the correct trailer? I am not sure. All I know is that I was happy to not have any debt as I headed back home with my 'new' old truck and my 'new' oldish trailer.
Two weeks later when the truck would not start and I had to have it towed to the mechanic, I was happy with my choices once again. Will the truck make it? Will the trailer make my life easier? That is still to be determined...
