Working eq. to cross country
We had a GREAT weekend of horse activities. On Saturday, WallE participated in Trunk OR Treat for the horses with some of the older, more advanced riders. They dressed him up as a deer and dressed themselves up as hunters...it was very funny (and horrifying). WallE was great and not all that spooky. He bobbed for apples, picked a carrot from under a cup and stood still as the girls guessed what was in the mystery boxes. Go WallE!
On Sunday, he and Grace traveled to Windridge for a Working Equitation Clinic. I have never experienced working equitation and this was a great introduction/pony club fundraiser. WallE did all the obstacles, even tolerated me picking up a long pole and carrying it over my head. It was very fun to try new things and I am looking forward to the Working Equitation Camp in November.
At the end of the clinic, WallE became irritable and would not focus. I took him to the nearby dressage arena and using the square exercise along with spiraling in and out on a circle to get him focused. There was a moment where I thought he might dump me, but he worked out of it!
After the clinic, quick school and water break, WallE and Grace (along with their riders) headed to the cross country field. WallE did great! He felt great and responsive over the jumps, felt happy to be there and stood quietly while I helped Grace and her rider. Overall a great day and experience!
WallE did well with Grace (a horse from our farm). He did not panic when she trotted and cantered off and he did not become unruly when he was asked to leave her. That makes me very happy!
